Back to trying Melatonin. Been trying to do without any sort of sleep aid for awhile now, but ever so often I just can't sleep without something.

Had an odd experience with Half & Half today (if you don't have it where you live, it's a dairy product that's half cream, half milk). I think it was tainted. I opened a fresh bottle and it tasted almost like almonds. Very odd for a milk product. Didn't taste right, so I only drank half and threw the rest of my tea out.

Didn't toss the Half & Half though, because it wasn't sour. Just... off. Thought maybe it was just me, so I asked me Mom to test it tonight, and I got it out and it smelled bitter. Not sour yet, just... a bit like an almond-sweet buttermilk. I ended up pouring it right out. It was really thick like full fat cream.

So, so weird. I reported it to the store I bought it from. Not sure what to think. Tried to Google some reference on the smell, but nothing came up.

Bah. Short update for now. More later. Off to head into the basement so I can attempt to cool down.

Hope everyone else isn't melting where you are!

That milk does sound strange.

A little frightened of the prospect, especially not knowing what's doing it. But I've felt relatively fine from that little bit I took. So good signs I think.

Almonds always make me think cyanide, but if that were true, one sip would have done you in. IIRC, what the cow eats can affect the taste of milk.

How's the melatonin working? I take it now and then, but the problem isn't so much me falling asleep as every other member of the family waking me up. Grr.

I'm not sure. I've not felt off at all though, so that's a good sign.

The melatonin works great, though I've found that taking a double dose will make me groggy and more likely to get dizzy. Depends on wear you buy it, but the 3mg tablets you can buy at the dollar store seem to work much better for me. I don't feel trapped in sleep at all either. It does wear off eventually if I've not slept well, like last night I ended up with only 5 hours sleep after waking up with a migraine. So it's an okay solution.

My doctor said melatonin was bad for my thyroid and I already have a bad thyroid so that's right out. I find just a Benadryl usually makes me sleepy. Also, cutting down on caffeine and never drinking it after 4 pm.

I only wish Benadryl would make me sleepy. Never has though. I'll agree with the caffeine bit, though for me I usually start cutting back about 2pm or so. Anything after 3pm and I'm screwed.

I can only take 1/3 of a tablet of Melatonin, but I wake up and can't sleep after about 4 hours. If I take more, I'm too groggy the next day.

I finally found the perfect solution to getting a good night's sleep (for me anyway). I use a Phillips blue light device in the mornings while I sit at my computer. I was able stop napping during the afternoons (which I previously considered impossible) and now I'm finally sleeping 8 or more hours at night.

I haven't slept that long at night for the last 10 years. I have Fibromyalgia and realized recently that I don't sleep as deeply as other people either because of the pain. The light device makes me somehow sleep more deeply and longer at night. I use it only in the mornings and it floods blue light in the side of my eyes as I am sitting.

See it here on Amazon:

I would never have believed it would work. I am a rather skeptical person. I borrowed one from a co-worker of my husband's. It started working on me within a few days. I had to return it to her, and the effect dwindled and I went back to not being able to get more than 6 hours of sleep and that was in pieces. I finally bought one a few weeks back and now I am sleeping better and waking feeling better than I have in years.

Your mileage may vary.

I'd never heard of that before. Thanks for the info! I have a bit of trouble with some sleep medications. Some make me groggier than others. Generally speaking, I do tend to have more severe reactions to just about every medication because of my migraines. Affects me in weird ways. Will have to look into that blue light more.

I'm glad to be of help! It's really odd but I have discovered that I feel the most rested in the morning if I've done the blue light therapy the day before PLUS eaten lots of fruits and veggies the day before, especially making sure to eat green veggies at least once per day. I must be getting old!
