Well, got that taken care of and finally got rid of all the spyware on my system.  Even got rid of a few lingering ones that I'd been trying to get rid of forever. *hugs google*  Tried out a few different spyware detectors, but in the end there were still a few that needed to be removed by hand.  No big though, as I'm just glad to be rid of them.

Gah, I'm so tired.  Stayed up last night to help my hubby get up this morning, and didn't end up getting to bed until after 5:30am.  Then he showed up around 10:30am giving me material for a Halloween poster and newsletter stuff that need to be turned into his office by tomorrow.  Before you ask, yes I usually get stuff from them at the last minute.

Still on my to-do list after I get those done is doing that other [livejournal.com profile] fall_for_sx project.  Feh, I'm gonna stop worrying about it and just do it.  Y'all will find out what I've got done when I post to the group...

It would be too much trouble if you can tell me what spyware detector you used to clean your computer? I'm too lazy to investigate =).

Thanks.

Sure! I used to use Lavasoft, which at first did a great job. However, I soon learned that it was causing problems with my system files. It was removing files that shouldn't have been moved. I really don't recommend that one.

The one I use most often is a program called Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

They've got a free version and an upgraded version. The free version is a simply adware scanner. The upgraded version, which I used to use before my system went down, gives you more options. You'd be able to take a closer look at the items in your system startup and determine what they're for. You can protect your internet control panel from having your startup page changes, it'll detect changes in your registry... things like that.

Sounds very familiar.
