Eager young pups...

Just had the missionaries come by and visit me. Our new ward just barely got our records. The Relief Society presidency came by to visit a couple days ago. Anyway, they were nice boys. They really were young. It was nice to talk to someone for awhile though. It's sad to realize just how long its been for me to sit down and have a chat with someone other than my family.
It was kinda funny though. One of them was from California. Anaheim (is that right?). He used to work at Disney Land as Goofy. He was a funny guy though. He was so excited to learn all about our state. One of the most neat things for him was animals. He said,"You have actual animals here. I mean, I've seen them in zoos and stuff, or at fairs, but it's just not the same. I mean, our next door neighbors have a cow! In their yard!" He was completely boggled by this. Just made me giggle.
Also, they all seemed so very interested in my online life, or more specifically my business. They all thought that was really cool that I do graphic design and write stuff. Which is odd actually. Most people I meet that I tell people what I do for a living kinda get that funny, "I'll humor you" look and say, "Oooh. Well, that's nice dear." *rolls eyes* Was rather refreshing to meet people that thought it was neat.
So anyway, it was a nice visit. They even offered slave labor. Dishes, lawn mowing, helping move boxes. *starts making a list*

Date: 2004-10-04 01:49 pm (UTC)I always love having the missionaries over for dinner, especially when we run across one who's a geek. In our last house, we had the "library" in the dining room, which meant the walls all around were lined with SF&F books. We once had an Elder who didn't look at us once through the entire meal... he'd talk to us just fine, but the whole time his eyes were scanning through the shelves looking for familiar titles.
They're definitely nice to have over to help with packing and unpacking though...

Haven't had a missionary over for dinner in forever, but will have to think about inviting these boys over.

Oh yeah, one of these guys did that. We have our DVD collection in the bookcases in the front room. He's spent most of the time looking through the titles while he was talking. Just about they were ready to leave he goes, "Do you have the *entire* collection of Buffy and Angel DVDs?" He was quite impressed. *gr*
