I feel bad for not updating more, but to be honest it's been more a case of lethargy. I have finally been able to put a name to my condition and that is familial hemiplegic migraines. For me, they tend to manifest as vistibular migraines. But that basically means is I get dizzy and confused quite often. Unfortunately they are completely out of control and I'm getting migraines on a daily basis, which is frightening because a serious condition will see people having them one week. What does that say about me?

Rethinking life goals

There are a few things I have had to rethink in my life. The most obvious is my ability to work. I don't think I will be able to seriously hold a job outside of the home anymore. Which is a really hard thing to face. But given my job skills I don't have this set required to telecommute at any serious level. Which means, I need to go back to school. I will have to re think my degree and change fields completely.

In that I am actually hopeful that I have an idea for my future. It is just going to take a helluva lot of time and effort get there, mostly because I have to come up with a way to pay for my schooling while I'm having trouble being able to do any significant amount of work. But I will find off way before, because I am very determined.

That's it for now

There is more to this thing called my life, that but that is not enough depression for one day. Maybe I can try to update more than once a year. We will just have to see how that goes, right?

I am so sorry about your migraines. I am rooting for you to find a way through them and also to make your school dreams happen.

even knowing what they are is half the battle with these, because the different types of migraines are all treated differently to some respect. At the moment since I have troubles with a lot of the medications they try to give me, I am looking at changes in my diet and vitamin supplements. Sounds odd, but so far it has been working. thank you for the hugs!

I'm glad it's helping! What sort of changes have you made? I get a lot of headaches, fortunately not severe, but I haven't figured out what to do about them. It seems like refined sugar makes mine worse.

I have added and subtracted vitamins and medications. It takes some trial and error. Keeping a migraine journal helps here so you can track your triggers. For me I discovered too much Vitamin C will trigger a migraine, as does Valerian.

Next up was food changes. My mom got put on a diet for a medical issue, and I followed it with her. There's restrictions on walnuts, cheese, chocolate, red wine, too much red meat, citric fruits that aren't organic (the chemicals might trigger something). There's a few guides out there on food triggers.

I changed how I medicate too. I went off the prescriptions because of side effects. But I try not to take a pain pill (advil or naproxen) unless its really bad (and I'll know within the first five minutes). I usually wash it down with a caffeinated beverage (which is also restricted to once or twice a day).

It just takes time to see what works for you. Start a migraine journal. There's a few websites that might help... Google Migraine Research Foundation. There's a couple good sites with info. Migraine.com is a good one.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! Those are great tips. My issues seem to be most focused around PMS time, which is also when my sensory issues get worse. I think that when I was on the birth control pill it was advantageous for headaches, but it caused other issues for me.

I'm keeping an eye on food issues for eczema reasons so I'm going to expand that to a headache log too. I'm glad you're figuring out so much about what helps you.
