I got a happy accident.  It was rather like being chased around a Monopoly board by a rabid shoe and accidentally passing go (grabbing your $200 as you pass by, of course).

It might sound complicated, but it goes a little something like this...

I'm a member of the Creative Home Arts Club.  I'm also a member of the Gardening Club of America (which I got first, though Lord only knows why since I can't seem to keep anything alive).  I've got lifetime memberships with both of those (get cool gifts, get to test and keep products, and get a lifetime subscription to the magazines).  The Gardening one was paid off, and the ex-hubby had been making payments on the second.

After he left, I ran through my records after getting a weird letter from them and discovered he stopped making payments some time back (yet another example of why we hate the ex right now).  Needless to say, they canceled the lifetime membership and reverted it back to a basic account.

A couple months go by and I finally get the money to pay it off, but since they canceled that lifetime account they ended up applying the money to the dues and subscription fees of my new account (complete with entirely new membership number).  Knowing that they'd apply those that payment and any previous dues paid to a new lifetime membership (using the new membership number), I went ahead and applied for another lifetime membership.  I had just gotten my first request for payment on the remainder of the fees a couple weeks ago.

When you get the lifetime membership, you get three sets of gifts.  The first is when you make you first payment (canvas craft bag, craft mat and roller cutter, set of stamps, and some misc member stuff).  The second you receive when it's halfway paid (over the shoulder organizer for scrapbooking projects), and the last is a gihugic rolling craft suitcase that you get when you pay the whole thing off.

I got all three of these in the mail today.  o.0

Wondering what was going on, I looked closer at the shipping labels.  They were addressed not to my new membership number, but to my old one that the club had canceled.  It seems they went ahead and applied the payment I made (took their sweet time doing it too) to the old lifetime membership and considered it done and paid for.

Very, very odd, especially considering when I talked to the customer service rep (when this whole thing started), she told me that they couldn't let me keep my previous lifetime membership and that I'd have to start all over again with the new account they gave me.  Hence the reason for applying for a new lifetime membership using the new number, and the confusion of receiving the membership gifts being sent to my old membership number.

See the problem (or did I lose you two exits back)?

Mom says I should just not look the gift horse in the mouth and not say anything about it.  I do find myself curious though as to how this happened.  No chance in hell I'm sending the stuff back now.  I guess I'm just afraid that now I have one lifetime membership (under old member number), and a second lifetime membership (under new member number), and will continue getting requests for payments for this new membership.  Not entirely sure how to go about explaining all this to a service rep should I get another bill.  I guess all I can do now is wait to see if I get any more requests for payment from them.

Weird, weird, weird.
