Can you mix booze with hedge trimmers?

Saw elsaf's post about yardwork and couldn't help but comment about my own love for gardening. I love it. I really do. But I'm so bad at it. I think I learned it from my Mom. She used to tell people that not only doesn't she have a green thumb, but she has a black arm. Yup, that would be me. Actually, there's one thing I can grow and luckily it's my all time fav: Black Knight Delphiniums. Can't seem to kill those babies. I just luv 'em. They've been with me through three moves now (which translates to about seven years).

In order to get my Mom's house ready to sell though, a co-worker of hubby's came up with a brilliant plan: a gardening party. I thought I'd heard of everything. My friend Skot's Mom is infamous for having a party for every occassion. If you can drink booze to it, chances are she'll party to it. Lovely lady. Mom loved this idea though. The one that suggested the idea even took a poll to see how many folks would show up for something like this. Turns out to be quite a few. We get beer, order some pizza, and hand out the hedge clippers. If you promise to get them drunk, they will come. They'll even do some yardwork in between the jello shots. Can you imagine that? I'm kinda scared myself, but that's the plan.

Damn, would have made for some lovely visuals too. So you've actually been to a gardening party? What were the results like?

They were really good, we managed to trim 2 long lengths of hedge, paint the fences and gates and put a mulch down on all the flower beds (of which there were toooo many). The power tools came out first before too much alcohol, then the other chores that could be managed even if sense of balance wasn't that good. Then finished it off with easy barbecue food. Everybody was filthy, tired, replete and in good spirits. Plus some really bad singing along to hits of the 70/80s :)

I do not have a green thumb at all. If it's green and I touch it, it will die. lol! Seriously, it's almost freaky. And you'd think it's genetic since my mom is the same way. So at home we have all silk plants.

Totally with you there. We have a healthy supply of silk plants too. I even manage to keep 'em clean. I'm usually so bad with plants. In fact, my mom had this plant she gave me, one she'd had for a long time. One of those rare ones she was able to keep alive. I killed it. I'm not even sure what it was, but I always used to call it the rubber plant. There's been a couple more of those, one people have given me with silly phrases like, "This one's impossible to kill." Yeah right, give me a week with it and it's a goner.

So right there with you. I have a green thumb friend who has tried and tried to make plants and I friends. But, alas, they still hate me and die if they get anywhere near me. Against all odds. My friend finally gave up about a year ago. lol
