I think this has always been one of my favorite holidays. No matter what's going on in my life, I can always manage to muster up the energy to do at least a little something.

My first year on my own, a few months shy of my 17th birthday, I didn't have money. Or family for that matter as they'd all moved three states away (about 645 miles away). I pulled out my handmade ornaments (I'd been collecting them for years as a child) and hung them on a big house plant my mother gifted me before she left. Then I had Christmas dinner with the Chinese family that ran the buffet down the street. LOL - Sad, but still fun.

The first year after my mother divorced, we didn't even remember Christmas was coming until the night before. Nobody was in the mood to celebrate, so I took it upon myself to decorate the entire house (even scrounged up a little decorative tree to put on our coffee table). I had already had presents for all of us (bought earlier in the year, thankfully), so I just made us a nice dinner and forced them into a nice holiday weather they liked it or not (they did).

I met a woman at the store the other day while I was finishing up the last of my shopping, and she just had such a bah humbug attitude. I just wanted to stuff her full of Christmas cookies and throw Santa her way. Rather makes me sad not everyone can enjoy my favorite holiday.

Having said that though, no matter what you're celebrating this time of year (even if it's just waking up for yet another new day), I hope you're having a good time. Hug your friends and family, eat a few good treats, and pull up a smile for a few people you don't know.

Happy Holidays everyone!!!
