Watched my first Bollywood film last night, Thank You. It was a strange experience. The breaking out in song and dance at a moment's notice got tiring after the first time (though admittedly I'm not a huge fan of any musical bar Mary Poppins).

What was odd though was the action scenes ripped straight out of Jackie Chan films. Nicely adapted, but still... not Jackie Chan.

Next up? Everybody gets together in the end. The film was about three women who hire a private detective to provide proof that their husbands are cheating on them (and incidentally, every damn one of them is a serial cheater). Of course they all get their balls handed to them on silver platters. Then at the end of the film got them right back and got back together with their women with promises of never doing it again (as if).

Meh. Not entirely impressed. Entertaining yes, though I did especially like one actor, Bobby Deol. His intense kill you with one look scenes highly reminded me of our favorite bad guy, Mark Sheppard. The guys could be long lost twins for all they play alike in their roles. Though Deol was convincingly able to play adorably stupid rather well.

I've only seen one Bollywood movie some years back and loved it, but I do like musicals. I can't remember the name.

Might have to give another one a chance, but still not sure what I think of the genre in general.

I haven't seen a whole Bollywood movie, just bits when I lived in university international housing. That plot sounds like an interesting comment on Indian society. The ladies I knew were treated like property, but in this story, they get a little freedom/revenge in the name of morality and then end up in the same situation at the end. Hmm.

Like you I'd only seen bits and pieces before. I'd agree with you there. I couldn't help but be so frustrated seeing them be walked all over and just sit there and take it (and then ask for more). That's really what I disliked most about the film.
