A day without internet.
Jan. 11th, 2004 02:52 pmNot good. I've realized how much of my life is dependant on internet, which is quite a lot.
4:30pm
Internet is down. Reboot network.
4:35pm
Reboot computer. Play Spider.
4:45:pm
Get bored with Spider and move on to Montana. Reboot network and computer.
5:00pm
The rest of the family notices the internet is down. Reboot network again.
5:30pm
Give up on solitaire and start going through email inbox. Give up on rebooting network.
6:00pm
Get bored with email inbox and decide to update computer. No internet to retrieve updates. Curse loudly.
7:00-9:00pm
Give up on stupid computer all together and watch movies with the family. Look longingly at computer the entire time.
9:00pm
Have question about movie and decide to look up on internet. Internet is still down. Curse loudly. In German.
9:30pm
Start frantically going through billing records to check if maybe the bill wasn't paid on time. Find out the check was sent. Reboot network.
10:00pm
Finally give in and call internet company to complain. Message says, "The internet is down. We're working on it."
10:30pm
Start going through email inbox again and catch up on responses. Collect 30 messages in outbox.
10:45pm
Stare at now empty email inbox and drum fingers on keyboard.
11:00pm
Give up and go to bed early.
9am, the next day
Call cable company to check status. Message now says, "The internet is down. We're working on it. We think it will be fixed sometime in the afternoon." Check clock.
9:20am
Resists urge to reboot computer. Plays solitaire. Check clock.
10am
Get bored playing six different kinds of solitaire. Decide to update computer. Remembers there's still no internet. Glare at computer.
10:30pm
Remember food is required for maintaining proper sulking session. Check clock.
11am-1pm
Boring daily stuff. Nothing better to do, might as well get dressed and do other non-internet things.
1:30pm
Check internet again. IT'S BACK UP! *big sigh of relief*
I don't actually remember when the internet came back up. But here I am, quite awhile later, and still updating all those files I started on yesterday but didn't have the internet access to finish.
