Thanks for nothing, LJ

Just caught the latest update to the Facebook-Twitter kerfuffle. Seems LJ attempted to fix the cross-posting issue so that protected and screened items wouldn't be affected.
Except there's a loophole.
*sigh* Rather defeats the purpose, no?

The only good thing is that supposedly these items won't even show if you've not filled out your info. Which is good for me, but what about everyone else?

If you've opted into Cyrillic services, you'll still be able to cross-post protected and screened comments

Date: 2010-09-22 06:35 pm (UTC)As for this particular feature, I will admit that the 'turn it off for non-Cyrillic' made basic sense to me in testing (not that I'm a primary tester or anything) because I didn't think really of the situation where the entry author and the commenter had different settings for the Cyrillic option. (Meaning, most non-Cyrillic users tend to have entirely or almost entirely non-Cyrillic friends, and vice versa.) So it made sense to leave it 'on' for the side of the service that isn't concerned about it, and turn it 'off' for the side that is. I think a lot of the staff looked at it the same way.
Now that I see that precedence is given to the commenter's 'Cyrillic services' setting and not the entry author's, I do personally agree that having the Cyrillic setting "follow" the journal owner's setting makes more sense for this feature. But whether that change will be made, I don't know.
Too bad the English LJ staff has no say in this. *sigh*
