Got a virus.

I tried to play an episode of Chuck I'd downloaded. Windows media player was the only one that would open it, saying it was an HD file. It said I needed to download a new codec, so I did.

Then I shut down the player and opened the file again, and it popped up a message saying there was a new update for security risk.

Clicked on that one.

Big mistake. Turned out to be a virus. A self-restoring Trojan. *head.desk*

I'm still trying to get the damn thing off. I've got a virus scan running, Spybot doing several scans, and I keep getting Windows popping up a message telling me to install some anti-virus software to get rid of it.

After being dropped a virus by Windows Media Player, I'm not so sure I trust Windows right now.

*sigh* Why me.

Did I mention I had been watching the downloaded episodes with my Mother while the virus started popping up internet windows featuring porn sites?

*looks for a wall to hit head against*

Had the same thing happen to me yesterday when trying to watch SPN episode 10. Same thing wmp said I needed to install the HDTV codec, turned out to be a virus. It's not WMP fault. Thats just the way the virus was made. Windows defender was able to get rid of it for me, I also had norton virus protection running as well, so it stopped the virus before any of those "pop ups" popped up! Don't know if you have windows defender, but it worked for me, at least this time.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware took care of my virus. it sounds just like the one i got about a month ago. it's damn annoying, but this program took care of it all, without any damage to my computer.
