Irish Physical Characteristics
As fun as it is to let people think my physical characteristics come from my mother's native american ancestry, the high cheekbones and dark coloring, it's actually from my Dad. They're scottish and irish for the most part, but my dad's color (black hair and brown eyes) are definitely irish. Did some research on it, and I guess it's fairly common to have brown haired irish. Black hair is less common, and black eyes are rare. My eyes are several shades darker than my Dad's, and almost black (depending on the light). I'm guessing I'm closer to being black irish, or more accurately Fir Bolg. Legend says they were short, unaturally white, and had black hair and eyes. That's pretty much me (and my Dad) in a nutshell. Well, my hair is more very dark brown (a bit lighter than my Dad's), but still. Got the short, dark, and white going for me.

NOTE: Oddly enough, my mother's family are quite fair of hair, skin, and eyes. My great-grandmother was native american, and my great-grandfather was german. Both were very fair. My mother ended up with blond hair and hazel eyes, which later turned a light brown. We don't know what ancestry my mother's birth father had. Grandma refused to talk about him other than to tell us his name.

NanoWrimo Panic Setting In
NanoWrimo is coming up in *checks* five days. I still have no idea what I'm going to write about. In all the years I've done it, this has never happened. I always have some idea, or character, or something. But this time? I got nothing. I'm thinking I'll just start writing out my thoughts and letting it take shape. Not like I've got much of a choice on that.

German Rules
This will probably come as no surprise to you, but I would like to learn German now. Sign me up for the language lessons.

Much Chores Await Me
I need to sweep the porch, clean out my room (because movers are coming in a couple weeks to remove my furniture to be replaced by smaller single-person sized stuff), and possibly water the plants. Watch me not do it. I'm very good at procrastinating. I'm thinking dinner and a movie sounds much better than housework.

I hope you get some inspiration for NaNo.

Me too. I haven't quite got to the point of breaking down and taking ideas from a plot generator, but the thought is still there.

OMG, I'm doing NaNo, too. I had a mini-panic over it this morning. I have a basic idea, but I swing wildly between loving it and thinking it's the worst idea EVER!!

*clings* I had one of those ideas last year. Didn't carry me very far though that was partially my ex-hubby's fault. Soooo hoping I get an idea soon. I'll be praying to the story gods here soon I'm sure.

I'm sure the story gods won't desert you! You need a sudden flash of inspiration.

LOL, I sure do. I actually do have plenty of inspiration right now, only it's the wrong kind. Somehow I don't think dirty thoughts of nekkid German twins will help me with my Nano much.

LMAO!!!! Yeah, seriously, I often find my slashy thoughts get in the way of anything original and non-slashy.

My appearance seems to be mostly inherited from my dad's eastern european descent. He has blond hair and blue eyes, though I don't know how common that was/is in the Ukraine area. I ended up with blond hair and green/gray eyes, my sister is also blond with blue eyes. My mom was born in Spain and has typical dark brown hair and eyes. Usually the dark gene dominates, but not so in our family apparently. People actually used to question whether or not my sister and I were her biological childrean, while assuming that my darker cousin was hers. hee!

Genes are weird like that. My husbands family was the same as far as their european descent being more dominant, and most of the kids turned up with blond hair (even if both parents had brown). I always thought it was so weird that the blond was so dominant.

My sister and I got odd comments like that too. Color wise, I'm my dad, but physically I'm my mother. My sister is exactly the opposite, only she ended up with red hair (some recessive trait from my mother's side of the family). My mom and dad and I all with our varying shades of brown, and her with her red. I loved calling her the red-headed stepchild if I thought I could get away fast enough. LOL

And younger men who didn’t wish to be married could still have children by married women with their husband’s consent.

Hee! Oh the love between sisters.

That's not as bad as the boy, who had his younger brother convinced that his drunken parents had left him at the side of the road, where they'd picked him up and adopted him.

Brothers are worse I think ;-)

Dood. So women could have their cake and eat it too?

LMAO - You got me there.

You just may be right on that. I shudder to think what a male version of my sister would have done to me.

Whoa! I accidentally copy pasted something from my notes on ancient Sparta into my comment! ha ha! Serves me right for trying to multi task too many things at once.

So yes, good to be a Spartan guy I guess! ;-) At least from that perspective.

Indeed she does. I'm noticing it a bit more now since I read that.
