Visualize whirled peas...
Oct. 19th, 2005 11:01 amI'm going to do Nano this year. I know, I know... where will I ever find the time between work, and school, and family time? Wel, best I can figure if I cut out all my extracurricular reading (ie reading fanfic) and cut down my sleep to two hours a night... I just might be able to pull it off.
So yeah, I'm not gonna pull it off. Did I happen to mention I don't have a plot yet?
Right, so that plot issue. My brain, in its infinite wisdom, has decided to help me cycle through the random plots spinning through my brain. I've been having story dreams again. Every night for the past week I've been having them. My only problem is that they aren't complete enough to make any sense of them.
For example, last night I had a dream where there's this thing with the thing and there's some world domination thing. There's these people, two tribes in New Zealand to be exact, that live off docks and ward off outsiders with shotguns like they're from the Appalachians in West Virginia or something. Only there's this cute hunky Maori guy who was born there and went off to college and became a professor and now is back to try and save the day that managed to get back in without getting hurt. And somewhere in there is these people, probably aliens, that have some plot to destroy the world with this thing for something... or something.
You can see the problem, right? *nods* Doesn't make a lick of sense to me either.
*sigh* Oh well. At least this time I'm planning on making the most of it. I think I'll take advantage of any regional meetings going on here and see if I can make some new friends while I'm at it *waves to
fantomeq*. That's a good thing, right? I thought so too.
Anyone else going for it this year?

Date: 2005-10-19 08:04 pm (UTC)... I think I'm going to do it. You've talked me into it! My insanity is going to be ALL YOUR FAULT.
Sadly? I already have a plot. This is what happens when one has four novels dancing in her head.

Date: 2005-10-20 07:04 pm (UTC)Nah. I just need to figure out some damn *plot*. I've only got enough for like a week of writing. Blah.
That's my big stumbling block - i don't do outlines or anything, and a lot of the time the plot just kind of 'happenes'. But if i'm coming up blank, plot-wise... Very hard.

Date: 2005-10-20 07:07 pm (UTC)I am however the Outline Queen. If there's anything I could possibly do to make myself feel like I'm accomplishing something without actually do anything, I will be more than willing to do it. I fill out my characters, outline the events, make up the story arc connection dealies.
And then I write it and that all goes to shit. *gr*
Basically, right now I'm... well, did you ever see that Disney cartoon where Donald Duck is trying to explain how the human body works? And he's going through thought process in the brain? And he shows the brain where there's this big dark room with lots of file cabinets and they're covered in cobwebs and there's moths flying around and it echoes?
Yeah. That's my brain right now.

Date: 2005-10-20 07:15 pm (UTC)Right now, i've got my main guy, his employees, his new 'friend' who's prolly gonna be more, and our hero's brother, who is dead. And their grandmother, who was a warbride. And i know histories and i know names and i know places and all that...
I just can't decide, does he stay where he's at, or is there a small road trip involved? And what's the whole *point* of the story??
Heeee. I so suck at plot. But - eventually - it'll come to me!
I hope. 1,667 words a day isn't hard, but actual words that mean something and give me a place to go from the *next* day...hard.
Heh.

Date: 2005-10-21 03:16 am (UTC)I'm rather the same way with mine. I got an idea for scenes, and rought sketches for characters. But absolutely no point to the story. :)
We shall see...
