Bah. Technology isn't my friend.

Rather sick of computers right now, not enough to go without mind you, but still... no love lost between us.
Bought cheap used computer. Not a bad system for what I paid for it. They'd assured me it'd been thoroughly checked over, and then had the drive wiped clean (since they don't have distribution license for the various OS they sell). Not a big deal as I've got an OS I can install in it.
Got it home. Hooked it up to my monitor, and nothing...
Couldn't get the DVD/CD drive to open either. So that was out. To put it simply, the lights were one but nobody was home. Or perhaps the vamps are out and the slayer is without her stake? Whatever.
Tried hooking it up to my mother's system, since I know for a fact it works fine, and got the same results. So I figure it's definitely the computer that has issues.
Looked up the problems and found it might be a graphics card issue. I have a spare, so I opened it up only to discover it's got on-board graphics and no agp slots for new cards.
I gave in and called a computer repair guy and started in on my explanation. Got to the part about my spare graphics card and he interrupts to ask, "Wait, wait. So you aren't getting anything on your monitor yes? Well did you try hitting the F8 key?"
*head.desk* Well yes, I would have if I could see anything on the monitor that would tell me it does something. Needless to say I hung up on the guy.
Tried another computer repair place, and no sooner than he hears the brand of the computer he was telling me it was a power supply issue (because that brand is famous for it), to take it back, and to buy one from him instead.
*sigh*
I actually will take it back, if I can, but I'm not going to buy another one. It can wait. I'll save my money and buy a laptop.
System details:
eMachine W3503 - Intel Celeron D 356 / 3.33 GHz, 512mb Ram, 160gb HD, ATI Radeon Xpress 200
I'd be happy with the one I bought if I could actually get the damn thing to work, but I'm losing hope.
If anyone on my flist has suggestions, feel free to offer them up. Otherwise it's going back on Tuesday.
