I keep thinking to myself lately, "Good gawd woman, just how many places did you put in your name?"
I spent all last weekend updating my records with my new name. I got my social security card and updated records at my main bank account.
I have to get my new license, change records at my second bank, and also with my employer.
On the plus side, the bank told me I could continue to use my old checks until they run out. Good thing too because I don't use them much and I've got a ton left.
I tried swtiching over my cell phone to a new account in my own name. Turns out it's cheapter to port my number to a different carrier and start over again there. I ended up getting a shared plan with my mother. I'm happy with that. It only took a full week to port the number too. w00t!

On the bad side of things, I'm being sued for a medical bill the ex-hubby was supposed to take care of while we were married. It's in the divorce decree for him to pay for it, but so far it looks like I'm still liable for it. I'm calling legal aid to help take care of it. Hopefully they'll have some ideas for me. As for how I was served, it didn't occur to me until after the woman had left that I was served under my former name. I could have told her there was nobody here by that name. Damnit! *moop*

Six more days of school and I'm off for a three day weekend. Then summer school starts. I'll be using the extra time off during summer school to look for my new job. I have a guestimate of how much I'll need an hour to make ends meet. Hopefully I can find something in that range.

Also on the agenda is church. I haven't really gone much in the last three years. There's a story that I'm not too keen on getting into right now. Part of it is because of the ex-hubby and part of it is due to health problems. Anyway, I'm getting back to it now. I just went back this past Sunday. It's been good for me. I think I need the peace I get from going, and the social aspects aren't bad either.

In a nutshell, I'm doing good. I'm still taking a day at a time. The folks at church think I'm being strong. They say I made the choice to take the higher road and that it will pay off for me.
I'm sorry I haven't been good about commenting and responding to comments. I'm hoping this summer I can work on catching up with you all. I miss you all dearly, and appreciate every moment. *hugs all around*

Date: 2007-05-31 05:59 am (UTC)I actually had to go back a bit in your LJ to get all caught up... I've been on the road for the past two weeks and had VERY sporadic internet access, so I'd missed a lot.
I'm also really glad to hear about the decision on your name (I think that's a really neat way to go with it) and about church and that you've got that support structure behind you now.
BTW, I don't know if our schedules are going to mesh at all, but would you want to try to meet up for lunch or dinner or something when

Date: 2007-06-09 09:04 pm (UTC)The ex made arrangements to get them off our case. Things are settled in that department for now, thank goodness.
Thank you for the wishes. :)

Date: 2007-06-09 09:09 pm (UTC)Things aren't going too bad. I'm slowly but surely combating the issues that pop up. The ex took care of one, another I took care of, and the third is still up in the air.
The name has been slow to get used to, but I think it was a good move for me to make. It's a nice new start for me. Having the support of family, friends, and church has been a godsend really. Couldn't have done any of it without them.

Date: 2007-06-09 09:11 pm (UTC)The bill issues are being taken care of one by one. I still hate the ex for putting me in this position, but I do appreciate that he's at least willing to try and get them taken care of... at least I'll appreciate it so long as he's working towards a solution. I'm sharpening the claws just in case though...

Date: 2007-06-10 01:34 am (UTC)I'm glad to hear things are getting fixed. These things can get so messy, and I've been angry on your behalf about it.
