saifai: (NCIS - Abby Gibbs Muah (blue85))
It's been awhile since I've truly expressed my nerdiness to the world. Perhaps I should start by covering a few shows that have been on lately. Some I've favored over others, but I've definitely got regulars.

(in no particular order other than as I remember them)

Burn Notice
I love Fiona. She's so cute, always wanting to shoot people or blow them up. It's how I wish I was. Wouldn't mind her figure either. The cast they have is surprising in that it works. I love Sharon Gless (Mom), ever since Queer as Folk my respect for her as increased. This role just cinches it. Bruce Campbell (Sam) is the one that has thrown me for a loop. I never really liked him. He's rather like William Shatner to me in that his characters start to look and sound alike. But this one proves to me that he's got some wicked skillz. Michael Weston is awesome of course, but up to this point Jeffrey Donovan is a relative unknown to me.

So, to some up we like the explosions and the shooting and the awesome cast of characters. It's made of win.

Psych
I don't know how many arguments I get in with people over this show. Most people seem to detest one of the main characters, Shawn Spencer (James Roday). The general consensus seems to be that he's a complete and utter bastard, but the same could be said of House (which according to the people who argue with me is the better character, however I think he's a complete and utter bastard so you can imagine how this argument usually goes...).

Honestly I think he's hilarious. He's got a different way of looking at things, and I can appreciate that. Besides, he's got Gus (Dulé Hill) to keep him... well, not exactly honest. But he's at least tempered a bit.

Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) cracks me up. He's such a stick in the mud, but at the same time he's not. It's funny to see him struggle to keep up appearances. Shawn's dad (Corbin Bernsen) is a good compliment to Shawn. I've always like this actor, and it's interesting to see him in a comedic role. O'Hara (Maggie Lawson) honestly isn't my favorite, but she's a good match for Shawn at times.

To sum up, it's damn funny. Plus, it's got tons of obscure nerdy and 80s references.

NCIS LA
I wasn't sure what to think of this one at first. If you've ever seen any of the hundreds of CSI spinoffs, you can imagine that I rather expected much of the same. It's a carbon copy that's been recolored. I couldn't have been more wrong though. They have different characters with eclectic personalties. They have a different approach to solving their crimes. They've got different technological capabilities. Plus, you've got to admit that Hetty (Linda Hunt) is a hoot.

I'm very pleased to see LL Cool J (Agent Sam Hanna) in there. Loved him as a kid, and he's got a great role. Chris O'Donnell (Agent G. Callen) I wasn't sure about. I hated him as Robin in Batman, so it's colored my views of him a bit. But he's redeemed himself rather well with this one. The writers have managed to give the characters some great background. Actually, my OTP for this show is Sam/G. They're such a cute couple.

The only one that's still on the ropes for me is Agent Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah). I love seeing a strong independent woman in a role, and it's a plus that she plays off the guys rather well. Sometimes though she's a bit flat. I'm not sure what it is, but something is a bit off sometimes. There's this faraway look in here eyes that doesn't fit well.

The rest of the cast are great. The addition of the psychologist is interesting. I always liked that about Law & Order: SVU, but then I'm a psychology nut so it's expected (incidentally that's part of the reason I like Psych's character Shawn...).

***

I'll leave it there for now. I'll be back another day for more. I'd love to hear what the flist has to say about these shows!
