Remember that Larry David quote I posted?  Someone responded to that with a theory I thought you all would enjoy commenting on.  It's in regards to the male perspective on sex, including straight men having sex with other men.  Sex a biological imperitive or not?

Take a look.

ETA:I just posted my response.

Interesting is a good word for it. My first instinct is to use the phrase "typical male" when reading that. But I did give the idea some thought. I think my response covers my thoughts on the subject pretty well.

I love the casual disregard for lesbians as sexual beings. :) You know, because for women sex is all about procreation, and lesbians can't make babies when they have sex so they must not be all that interested in it after all. Funny how whenever people think of real live gay men all they can think of is them having cock and bum fun, but when they think of real live lesbians their minds turn to images of chubby 40something women playing softball and baking whole wheat bread.

*dies laughing*

This reminds me of the old CDC definition of lesbians: Any woman over the age of 28 who hasn't had sex with a man in the last 10 years.

I'm off to snog the chicken and wake the neighbors. *wink*

I gathered he was explaining the male rationalization process as a generalization. I didn't catch the romance bit until I reread.

Bisexuality's a shaky ground on both fronts. I'm bi, technically (which both sides don't like). I have a 90% preference for women, about 10% for men, but I did marry a man because he's who I fell in love with, and we've been together ten years. Certain parts of my life might be a great deal more satisfying and in some ways easier if I were with a woman, but I chose what made me happiest. People think I just grew out of it or am trying to be normal, but it's still there. ...And I think I was working toward some point, but preggo brain made me lose it.

I see your point though. To me, the guy was rationalizing away homosexual behavior. That's the idea with a lot of the critics of the film now is that people tend to shy away from the concept of gay people in any form. This guy just proves that theory.

To that guy, there is no gay man or woman. There's only straight men who have sex with other men just because they felt like it, and women who apparently go celebate and bake cookies with other women.

I just don't buy it. Nor what I ever believe you "grew out of it" and married a man. You don't choose who you fall in love with. I saw a comic once that described falling in love as accidentally stumbling off a cliff. ::giggles:: Something like that, no?

There was definitely some casual disregard going on there on a lot of points. That being one of them of course. I understand what he's getting at, but I just don't buy it. Sounds like a man making rationalizations about himself.

LOL. Exactly.

*waves* Have fun. ;)

Ah, I see. I thought it was kind of funny because it means there's so much more gay out there than we think but so much repressed and rationalized away.

Mmm, cookies. Wait, where was I? :) LOL, that's what it's like, complete with bruises and contusions on the way down!
