For whom the bell tolls...

saifaiDon't really want to get into details, but I'll be attending a funeral next week sometime.
Hubby and I took our minds off matters by renting a few films. We only managed to watch Alexander. I have several complaints about the film, but two stand out. First, where the hell are all the sex scenes between the pretty men? So not fair. I want blatant overtures of a sexual nature, not sutle hints. Come on people, I can take it. *gr*
Second, the film didn't make a lick of sense. Seriously. I know squat about Alexander other than he was a king, he lived a really long time ago, and some people didn't like him. This film rather assumes you know everything there is to know about him and his life history. They show things in the film that make you wonder, but they certainly don't reveal anything to me. After watching the film with a permanent look of confusion, I gave in and looked up all I could on the guy online. Quite the history there. His life, and his father's I might add, are just one big sex scandal.
For example, one of the things that didn't make any sense to me is the way Alexander's father, Phillip II, was killed. Some total stranger walks up to him, plants a big wet one on him that lasts a bit too long, gives a bitter cry, and shoves a dagger in him. o.0 I looked it up. As it turns out, the guy was a jealous lover. He was spurned by the king when he had been abandoned in favor of a younger man.
Color me fascinated.

However, Alexander *was* the biggest load of shit ever made into a movie. It sucked so very badly that my Classics teacher cried. Literally.
Anyhoo... if you wanna know a bit more about him with a side dash of sex, read 'The Persian Boy'... about one of Alexanders historically acknowledged lovers.
You know in the film where Alexander and his 'insane' wife sit and watch two men dancing rather erotically... then Alexander, to the egging on from his friends, kisses one of the men with long dark hair... well, that is supposedly Boagos... and that kiss is recorded as having really happened... as for the rest of the film... who the fuck knows?
