Sprint Sux.

Sprint Nextel has pissed me off for the last time.
We've been trying to get out of our contract for over a year now.  Every three months we call and they tell us, "Oh, your contract is up in [pick a date at random]."

This random date comes up and we head on over to the Verizon store to hook up service.  They always tell us, "Oh, well it shows here your contract isn't up for another three months."  *head.desk*

But wait, there's more!
The contract thing isn't our only problem.  We've also had problems with our service, and the associate fees.  For example, we've had internet and text messaging free of charge as a part of our contract for the past five years. We've never changed that plan because it's the best in the market.

Yet every month for the past six months hubby has to go in and ask them to remove the extra $300 off our bill they charged us for services that are free according to our contract.

Incidentally, he also goes in weekly to deal with problems of hubby paying for services they won't let him have on our phones.  They keep saying, "Well yes you're paying for it, but that's a mistake.  That service was removed from your plan without your permission.  And no, we don't plan on giving it back."

He also has problems with the phone actually working.  He goes in twice a week to have them fix the problems with the phone.  They fiddle with it, mark it down in their records as fixed, and then he goes back in later that week to do it all over again.  Side Note: He actually had a representative tell him one time that they simply didn't care.  Nextel was honoring the contracts for Sprint until they ran out, but they weren't making any money on it.  For that reason, they didn't see any reason to actually help the customers.  Hubby threatened to sue and the rep said in a bored voice, "Go right ahead.  Want us to fax you the forms?"

The rule of 300:29:1
There's a saying in the transportation industry about the frequency of unsafe acts, that while currently aren't causing harm, will someday catch up with you.  They say that for every 300 near misses, you will have 29 minor incidents, and one major accident.  Basically, if you keep on doing something unsafe even though you're not supposed to do it, it'll eventually catch up to you.

I guess the same goes for poor service in the communications industry.  As it happens, hubby got a bill that was almost $400 over the amount of our regular monthly fee.  Yes, the extra was due to charges that they tacked on that should have been free according to our contract.  Hubby fought with them as usual, only their reply was different this time:
"We're sick of continually fixing this problem every month and having to reimburse you at least $200 at a time.  We're putting a stop to this.  We're not paying for these mistakes any longer.  You can damn well pay the bill this time, in full, or we're shutting your service down at the end of the month."

WTF?!
Hubby called Verizon the same day and asked for help.  We've got a plan.  Basically, it involves porting our numbers to Verizon at the end of the month and starting service with them.  Then, we're gonna sue Sprint.  We're also going to contact the FTC, FCC, BBB, and our Attorney General.

*sigh*  Sprint Nextel sux hairy monkey balls.  Ihatesthemverymuch.  *glares*

We've had something very similar happen with our local SBC regular line at my hubby's shop as well as his Cingular cell phone (one he uses for business). We also each have our own Verizon phone and really haven't had any problems except for when I wanted to transfer my number to his account, the guy at the Verizon store was a moron.

Anyway... Cingular has always overcharged him on the Cingular phone for some package long distance crap that is supposed to be included at a certain price. SBC did something similar and hubby had to call them up like three bill notices in a row telling them that *supposedly* they had fixed it the month before but somehow it came back again. He got real high up in their administration chain and bitched out some guy on the west coast director something or other. Hasn't happened again since. :D

I'm definitely surprised that Sprint has that attitude. For future reference, when someone says contract is up make sure you get the date in writing. Hubby had some other phone thing before switching to Verizon and whoever the rep was had forged his signature on some other agreement. There was some threats or something to put it on his credit but he got out of that nicely. Let me ask him about what he thinks about your situation since he's been through similar stuff a few times before (plus he's a law student and has taken some contract courses that should help!).

*hugs* Good luck!

Damn. Good thing you told me about the Cingular thing. Would hate to switch over only to have the same problems. We ended up going for the Verizon. It's working out great so far.

I'm definitely getting things in writing from now on. This just burns me deeply. The whole experience just boggles my mind.

Verizon has been wonderful in the entire two days I've had it. So far so good. :)

No idea how the Sprint legal thing will go, but we shall see.
