Grant you this news is 5 days old, but I'm backlogged on my emails so forgive me if you've heard this before.

Also? Pardon me while I rant.

"The creative team that brought the world the first 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' motion picture is going to try again ... with a remake. Sans Joss Whedon."

Hate to break it to you guys, but that means making the movie without the creative team. Got the news from Airlockalpha.com in case you're curious.

...

Seriously. WTF?!

Saifai HQ
I've been working on my new computer and finally got it running up to speed (doubled my ram memory). Got Photoshop and all the others back up on it. Of course, you can imagine I spent the weekend playing with it.

Actually, I spent pretty much all weekend putting up my personal website in a new location. I tried to get it under my domain name, but that so didn't work. Currently, it's sitting H E R E. I went cheap and used the template Google forced me to use. When I have more time I'll re-do it.

Dreamwidth Layout
Next on my to-do list was to figure out how to code a custom layout for Dreamwidth. OHMYGODSOMUCHWORK! You see the results H E R E. Again, not my own design. I went with something from [livejournal.com profile] thefulcrum for now. I won't bother with the details. You can read the top post in the journal if you want to know more about how it's done. Or rather, how I did it.

Will need a bit more work before I can get the layouts done for others (those who asked). There's got to be a less complicated way to do it, I just have to figure it out. LOL

New LJ Layout
While I'm on the subject, the poll results from the journal entry H E R E. I'll be doing my layout using a mix of my own favorites, but in honor of the second runner up I'll put Doctor Who/Torchwood in a place of prominence. Yay! Thank you all for helping me with that one. Hopefully I'll be able to get that done this next weekend.

The Darth Boot
In the mean time, I'm currently resting up. Went to the doctor today... wait. Just realized I never updated on this here. I tripped and twisted my foot the Friday before last. Sprained my foot. I've been wearing a cast boot, lovingly called "The Darth Vadar Boot" by the nurses.

I've had it on a week, and went for a checkup today. I still have to wear it for another week, but can gradually get to leaving it off throughout the week. Drove my car for the first time in a week today (it's been stuck at work and have been getting rides to and from work from my mother).

Tired my poor little foot out though, so will have to con my poor mother into doing my weekly grocery shopping for me (we trade off cooking weeks, and it's my turn this week).

Woo! I got a layout done for this journal. I didn't create it, because at this point I'm just trying to figure out how to do the damn thing. I'm just happy I got one up at all.

This layout is courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] grrliz from [livejournal.com profile] thefulcrum.

The tutorial for bringing over an LJ layout and creating a custom theme to go with it is here.

It was kinda on the complicated side. I had to create the layout itself, and then do the theme layer for it, and then combine it all together.

A note for the designers out there, I don't remember who I got it from, but in order to use the theme layers you need to remember to use the function print_stylesheet before any css you add.

Next step, creating a header.

You know me, short attention span and all. I can't quite decide what to do with my next layout. I've got so many favorites right now that I can't seem to choose. You guys pick your favorite, and I'll make my layout in whatever fandom y'all choose. Poll is open to everyone.

Working on backing up my entire LJ here, posts, comments and tags only. I love that import tool. It's so handy!!!

Don't have enough icons. I only have 6. SIX!!! *flails* This is like over a 100 less than I'm used to. I may have to switch these out daily. How can I live with only six?

...

SIX!!!

*flails and goes for chocolate*

Current Mood: cheerful cheerful

I've got five four available if there's anyone out there that still needs one.

Current Mood: sore sore

It seems today is EXCLAMATION POINT DAY!!! LOL, sorry.

[livejournal.com profile] shiny_glor_chan did a neat meme where she writes a lil' fic based on whatever icon you respond with. I chose this one... *points*.

She says he looks sick, and came up with this.

It's Season 6 Angel (which I haven't read, but now I'm curious) and does Connor and Spike in the scene together.

*claps* Go! Read!

Well, no not really. But I did dye my hair black. Technically it's called "Natural Black" whatever that means. Honestly it's only a shade or two darker than my natural color.

They don't have brown dark enough to match my hair. So, black it is.

Okay, I might have stocked up on black jeans and t-shirts too. As one of my student's asked me on Friday, "What's with all the black?"

LOL

I setup a Tumblr account, mainly to follow friends from outside the fandom that have accounts there. Oddly enough, quite a few are over there. It'll be a mix between cross-posting from my LiveJournal and my Blogspot entries that aren't on LJ.

If you've got account, you can follow me here.

Hey there! Sliding in under the radar from my LJ (same username). Just getting this thing started and working out the kinks.

I'm pretty open on my friending policies. If you know me from LJ, friend me. If you're curious about me, ask questions and friend me if you'd like.

Gimme a bit to find my way around here and I'll see what else I can't post here. FYI, I'll cross-post most entries with my LJ for now.

Current Music: "Forgotten Children" by Tokio Hotel

I've got a Dreamwidth journal. My username is the same. I've mainly done it to reserve the name, but also to keep up with the folks that have decided to permanently migrate there. I'll likely cross-post almost everything, barring some exceptions.

I AM HERE

I haven't kept track of who's already over there, so please link me if you've got an account there too.

Rather sick of computers right now, not enough to go without mind you, but still... no love lost between us.

Bought cheap used computer. Not a bad system for what I paid for it. They'd assured me it'd been thoroughly checked over, and then had the drive wiped clean (since they don't have distribution license for the various OS they sell). Not a big deal as I've got an OS I can install in it.

Got it home. Hooked it up to my monitor, and nothing...

If anyone on my flist has suggestions, feel free to offer them up. Otherwise it's going back on Tuesday.

Saying Happy Birthday to LJ, a day late. I've been a bit behind lately due to RL. Taking a break from the current hoopla going on with Tokio Hotel to share with you my first TWO posts (since the first one was so short). Bringing you back to August of 2003:

21 August 2003 @ 01:16 pm
Thanks to Kristen ([livejournal.com profile] miggy)for her post that helped me to get started. Once I get a hang of all this, I suppose I'll try customizing the look of the journal. You can expect to see my ramblings here. If I've finished a story, but have yet to post it, you'll see it here. Links to my sites will be added if there's something of interest to see there when I update. More on this later...

21 August 2003 @ 05:16 pm
I finally wrote (and posted) my first fan fiction. This was actually inspired by another story I read (when I find a link for it I'll post it). I got to thinking what would Spike and Xander have in their junk drawer?

Why yes, that is my very first fanfic, why do you ask? LOL - Still love that one. Big thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kyrieane and [livejournal.com profile] txrabbit (at least I think it was them) who badgered me into writing it, and also pushed me towards wanting to get this whole LJ started in the first place. Also to [livejournal.com profile] miggy who gave me the leg up.

Getting ready to go out and see a movie with new friends. Monsters and Aliens or something. Sounds cute.

Hope everyone's doing well, and that you're weekend will be a good one!

1) Why do you read fanfic?
An excellent question. Part of my answer relates to the second question, but it started out to answer questions. I saw ideas and questions come up in shows I was watching, and explored the answers through other's writing. These days, it's more of an escape. Same reason I read any other book. For entertainment value. There's still that part of me that will read to answer questions, but I find the answers come from the hive mind of fandom and I don't have to actively search them out much these days.

Cut for length. Click for the rest. )

Current Mood: blah blah

I'm updating the entries for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom on DMOZ.org and I need help with websites.

I used to have a lot of links, but so many of the old groups are gone now. Does anyone have any links? I know there's still a lot of award sites out there still running, but I don't usually participate so I don't have links.

I thought there might be some clubs out there still running, but I don't know who for sure anymore.

If anyone has any links to offer, please comment and let me know.

Thanks!

This is from Facebook, but there's a lot of graphics folks on my flist that I thought might get a kick out of this one too. I'm not tagging anyone here as it would be a long list... LOL. If this pique's your interest, consider yourself tagged. Note, I adjusted the rules a smidge to suit LJ.

ETA: I just realized I didn't even bother with resizing it to proper album dimensions. *resists urge to start all over and redo it and settles with inline resizing*

Create your band's first album cover.

1 - Go to "wikipedia." Hit “random”
or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to "Random quotations"
or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop (or similar) to put it all together.

5 - Post it and tag the friends you want to join in.

Behold, my first album cover. Apparently I'm either an import, or some sort of alternative band. Yes, the photo is food (a sandwich) if you're wondering. My band name, if you can't read the font, is Latakia.

Instead of finding out how the missing Explorer happened, or even find out how to fix it, I just worked around it.

I've got instead of the Windows Desktop, a new shell program called bbLean. Bonus? Low memory footprint, meaning it'll work better for my system that's already bogged down as it is. So far a few things are running faster now since I installed it.

The odd thing is that some of the other Explorer programs work again. I can't directly open the Explorer, obviously, but if I say open a Zip file, I can backspace and browse files that way.

As an alternate though, I installed a Explorer replacement program called ExplorerXP.

I know, I know. It's a cover up. It's not fixing what caused the problem to begin with. But my Monk is happy because everything is handy and at my fingertips again. I can work on trying to figure out how this happened tomorrow.

Still open for any suggestions if anyone has ideas for me on the problem. I'm trying to avoid having to reinstall Windows. Me and Windows don't get along, or at least reinstalling it always creates problems for me. LOL

My Windows Explorer randomly decided to stop working. I can see it's there in the Task Manager, but it's not loading. I can try and open it manually through Task Manager, but it says it's missing and won't do it.

I've tried the sfc /scannow thing to replace it, but that didn't work either.

Anyone got a Windows XP SP2 or 3 Explorer.exe file I can borrow? I need the one with the computer monitor for an icon.

Either that, or if anyone has any other suggestions, I'm open to them.

HELP!!!

I've been playing. I got bored, what can I say? This time I downloaded a few gadgets to spruce up my desktop.

  • I got a thingy that will arrange the icons on my desktop in cute little designs - Desktop Icon Toy
  • I got another doodad that will simplify the process of making my Windows taskbar transparent - Transbar
  • I downloaded a bunch of custom desktop icons from various people - deviantART

Heee! *bounces and claps* Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a craving for pecan pie I need to satisfy. *hops off to bake pecan pie*

[Error: unknown template 'qotd']

A couple years back my husband and I went with some friends from work to Jackpot for a weekend gambling trip. It was a group package thing that included a bus ride there and back.

We were all seated in the back of the bus, taking up most of the seats back there. The closest people to us were some people who didn't speak much english. In fact, they spent most of their trip speaking spanish to each other.

As it turns out, they didn't realize we could understand them. You pick up a few things working with school kids who're learning english as a second language.

They'd spent the entire trip talking about us. It's hard to ignore after spending a couple hours inadvertently listening to it. How fat we all were, us disgusting examples of americans. We must be so lazy...

It just went on and on. Not one of us took the time to let them know we understood them until when we got off the bus when we arrived there (as luckily they didn't ride the bus with us going back). It was one of our group, who is actually our training supervisor at work (who incidentally was the only one of us who could speak it fluently), who told them in spanish as we got off the bus, "It was nice sitting with you. Thank you for such a pleasant trip."
